When her personal trainer guaranteed it would help alleviate the pain she was feeling in her knees and hips, Upper East Side running enthusiast Lynn Callister decided to try barefoot running; which is running without expensive and overly padded running shoes.
On the morning of April 25 2009, an enthusiastic Callister bounded barefoot onto East Drive and immediately stepped on a discarded Bic pen cap, a hardened acorn capule, and a bottlecap from a 12 oz Corona Light.
After she was discharged from the emergency room with bandaged feet, Callister fired her trainer and took up cycling. Her knees are fine now.
